It was an emotional morning at Fox 8 on Tuesday as one of our own made an important announcement.

Fox 8 News in the Morning reporter Stacey Frey has been diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer.

Stacey said she discovered a lump a few months ago and will undergo surgery on Wednesday at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Her husband, John Kosich, and their son, Aidan, joined her to share the news.

Stacey says she felt it was important to include viewers because it’s a diagnosis that most women don’t expect.

“You never think it’s going to happen to you,” Stacey said.

In fact, early detection is key to successful treatment of the disease.

“I’m one of the lucky ones,” Stacey said.

Her husband feels blessed, too.

“I’ve been married to this woman for 15 years and I know of no one who has a stronger spirit. She’s a rock,” John boasted.

Stacey will be absent from Fox 8 for about four to six weeks.

We’ll miss her terribly, but she knows she has our support!

“I know that my Fox 8 Family has been praying for me.”

And, we are.

Our own Wayne Dawson said it best: “You’re gonna come back better than ever.”
